Cooking in Reception

On Thursday we baked some traffic light biscuits. Together we read the recipe and carefully measured out the ingredients. We discussed each of the ingredients as we added them to the mixing bowl. Every child got the chance to mix and some children shared their ideas and knowledge of the ingredients. Once the mixture was ready, in small groups the children rolled and cut their biscuits. We spoke about them needing to be an oblong shape, so they had to cut two long sides and two shorter sides. After lunch we decorated them to resemble the colours of traffic lights. We spoke about each colour and road safety. The children enjoyed the process...especially consuming them!
