Nursery children fascinated by germination!

Nursery children have had much fun planting sunflower seeds recently. The children are now excitedly awaiting germination... 


Year 3 maths lessons

Yesterday the children were giving each other directions, in order to travel to different cones in the playground. They have been looking at using compass points to give directions, as well quarter turns and half turns. 



Bertie Bott's Beans

Year 6s tried 'Bertie Bott's Every Flavoured Beans' from Harry Potter before working out ratios in recipes. Earwax flavour, anyone?

St. Helen's debating and philosophy club

Children are thoroughly enjoying having the opportunity to participate in the debating and philosophy club launched recently. This week, the group focused on the question "How can we create a Just Society". Next week they will be discussing and exploring forms of "Discrimination".

Year 4 review their goals before christmas

Year 4 reviewed their goals from before Christmas today! They have all taken down their 'not so confident yet' goals and set new ones to be accomplished before the end of year 4!

On each post-it you will see something they are now very confident with followed by something they aren't confident with YET!

Happy Friday!

A few years 4s have been working away on a poem together. It was inspired by the Chinese New Year poem which is located around the school! Hope you enjoy!





Author Ruth Fitzgerald visited children in Years 5 and 6 today

'The visit has changed the way that I think about writing,' said a Year 6 child. 'An inspiring visit!' said another. We even invented our own character 'Miss Toxic- Onion'.

Year 4 farming project is underway!

Year 4 spent an afternoon in the sunshine today preparing the soil for planting. They are planning to sell their crop to raise money for the school's Kenya charity.

Year 5 pupils attend the 'Life Exhibition' at St Andrew's Church

On Friday, St. Helen's Year 5 pupils attend the 'Life Exhibition' at St Andrew's Church Ipswich. The exhibition included use of DVD clips, discussion with leaders,  graphic panels, use of tablets and an interactive quiz. The children learned about the story of Jesus and what he means to Christians today.At the end of the exhibition, the children took part in the interactive quiz where they tested their knowledge and gave their opinions.A drink and a few biscuits were enjoyed in the Life Cafe.

Rainforest phase visit by Author Ruth Fitzgerald this Friday!

Just a reminder that the fantastic author Ruth Fitzgerald is visiting the Rainforest Phase on Friday. We will be selling her books to children in year 5 and 6 at a cost of £6.99 each. Four copies will be purchased for the library too so there is no obligation to buy.

Year 3 discuss kings and kingdoms

Year 3 RE.
Today we have been discussing the Kingdom of God, and what this means for Christians.
We began with engaging the concept of kings and kingdoms. The children decided what it would be like to live in a kingdom that was ruled by the best king. Pupils were challenged to make a crown for the king in a limited amount of time. They decided that even with the best crown, it did not make the best king.

Year 6 create learning 'mind palaces'

Year 6 children were painting their 'trickiest' spellings and created a learning 'mind palace' yesterday.


Year 6 "doing nothing is not enough!"

The Fruit Bat class looked at the effective persuasive features of Martin Luther King's speeches today. 'Wow! They're really strong and convincing,' said one pupil. We learned that, sometimes, doing nothing is not enough.

Bees and Chameleons traditional story telling

This week Year 5 have been reading and telling traditional tales. On this day we focused on a simple play script and developed it in to entertaining short performance. Well done Bees and Chameleons.



Octopus maths lesson

Year 3 Octopus class made a class pictogram on the board in their maths lesson yesterday and are proud to share their results.


Year 4 children experience professional Gecko dance session

Eight children from Year 4 were fortunate enough to attend a professional Gecko dance session yesterday. The children did absolutely brilliantly and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Tree frog fitness tests

Tree frogs spent their PE lesson doing various fitness tests today.


Turtles develop their understanding of light reflection

Turtle class have been using enquiry skills to develop their understanding of how light can be reflected. The mirrors worked really well and they were able to change the angles to reflect the light beams around a circuit!
